We are the 34th Street Transitway Action Committee. We are New Yorkers opposed to the planned 34th Street Transitway – called the Above Ground Subway by its builder, the NYC Department of Transportation – because of its negative impacts on our communities’ quality of life and the value of our properties and businesses, from the East Side’s Murray Hill and Kips Bay to the West Side’s Clinton. At the same time, we support exploration of Transitway alternatives that can improve transit for everybody while preserving the neighborhoods and businesses that we’ve worked hard to build and sustain.

Although most of us live and work in the Transitway’s vicinity, we invite the participation of all who foresee the damaging outcomes of this project, including increased traffic congestion, noise and pollution; compromised street and neighborhood safety; and increased costs and diminished values for surrounding properties and businesses.
